On their monthly "Wacky Wednesdays," children donate $1 to wear a tie, show off a crazy hair style, dress backwards, bring a pet, whatever! These contributions sponsor a child AND a school food program!  WAY TO GO!

Sponsoring a child, a project or a school keeps children from going hungry so they can focus on their education and hopeful future.

Stories of Children Under our Care

Yenifer/AldeaIntern Updates:
Interns at the Aldea are on duty 24/7 working to help children thanks in part to your generous child sponsorships. Full accounts of daily life and activities are updated regularly on our blog. Here are some excerpts from their weekly entries:

"Yenifer, is simply an incredible girl. There is one thing I really want to try and describe about her, but I also know words won't really do justice. When she hugs me, she is able to look up at me with her gorgeous eyes and it brings immediate joy. There is something about the power within her eyes.  I wish I could explain, but don't know if I will be able to, but she has that ability to say a million different things with a look........"

"In addition to the computer classes, there has been one girl that has asked me for piano lessons, so the past four days I have been teaching what I can to Karmela, who is learning very quickly. I don't have any beginning piano books, so I have just drawn a couple of simple songs for her to practice. We have learned how to read notes on paper, which notes are which on the keyboard, sharps and flats, and a little about rhythm and beat. She loves it. In exchange for piano lessons, I have been receiving delicious......."

"Daniel's situation is unique. He grew up in Brazil, learning Portuguese, and then not so long ago was brought to the Aldea. Supposedly, before he came, he was learning and speaking just like all the other boys. But when he arrived here at the Aldea and no one could understand him and he couldn't understand anyone else, something happened to his speaking ability. Now he doesn't speak any language at all and only makes sounds. He is still going to the doctor to try and figure out what treatment is necessary and appropriate for his condition. Until now, the doctors still don't know how to help him. Apart from his speech impediment, he is quite like any other boy. He loves to....."

"When people donate their time, they are giving of their valuable heartbeats."

·
A warm appreciation for North Davis High School students and their community for their fundraising efforts on behalf of the children under the care of Southern Cross.  Hopefully we'll see some of you on an expedition this summer so you can work along side of the people you are serving.

· Big hearty thanks to Allstate Foundation Agency Hands in the Community for their generous volunteer supported grant to Southern Cross.

· Our folks from Canada have done it again!  Check out Used Cowichan.com and see some of the items for sale.  All proceeds go to Southern Cross projects.  Last month they raised money to help our friends in Colombia start a chicken farm, and this time they raised money for the El Bichito kitchen!  Gracias amigos!

· Thanks goes to Jessica Davis and her contribution to the Palacios family. Jessica is a U of U student who heard about the Palacios family and saved money to donate because knew this was a family she wanted to help.

· We'd like to give a shout out to Ashlyn and Sadie, from Rolla, Missouri, for assembling school kits! We really appreciate you sharing your goodness, time and efforts!
