(Goodsearch Instructions)
Daniel is in need of medical testing that costs about $200. Earn money for a child while you search the internet and shop on-line! We're allocating the funds from our Goodsearch fundraising for Daniel. Daniel also needs a sponsor. A current sponsor put it this way, "What I spend for dinner and a movie, sponsors my child and feeds him for a month."

Wonderland in Peru!
Porcon, one of our exciting new partners in Peru, is one of the worlds most successful cooperatives. With our partnership we have the opportunity to send children under our care to learn skills of self reliance in a community within their own country. One of their upcoming industries is
eco-tourism, and they asked Southern Cross for rappelling lessons. Sampson Hitchcock, a former intern for Southern
Cross, went to Porcon to teach this new skill. Here is some of his experience in his own words:
"The area we found is absolutely beautiful. The repelling wall is right next to an approx. 60 ft waterfall. The locals got over their fear of heights and are rappelling off the waterfall with enthusiasm. Surprisingly, the women were the first ones to make the rappel off the waterfall and they showed up in their best skirts and most colorful shirts to do it! They insisted on wearing their typical dresses as they repelled for pictures.
Overall, it was one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had in Peru. Nowhere else in Peru, or perhaps nowhere else in the world, can you find such a unique society like Porcon where everything is happily and willingly shared in common. The sight of the endless groves of pine trees that go as far as the eye can see, and the amazing wild life that includes: deer, bears, Vacunas, eagles, condors, and many others is incredibly breath taking, but the real reason to visit Porcon is the people. "
Porcon needs English interns. If you are interested, please contact Laura@sxhu.org.

And The Winner Is...
Children were the big winners at our Southern Cross Humanitarian Banquet & Golf Tournament. Proceeds from this successful evening will be used to provide many opportunities for children at risk in South America.
Delia, one of our El Bichito children, was one of our big winners of the evening. A doctor on our June expedition discovered a tumor in her ear. When we asked people to help pay for Delia's surgery, the hands went flying. To read more about her, and other children, their needs and their lives, please scroll through the stories on our children's blog!
Big thanks for all those who participated! If you'd like to donate for other children who are in need of medical attention, please go to our website at: www.sxhu.org.

"Winter" Expeditions! Microsoft Pulls Through by Cameron Smyres
Microsoft employees and friends stepped up to the plate during our August Expedition to take on the difficult task of putting a roof on El Bichito (The Little Bug). It looked like a difficult and never ending job as Kyle Johns and his family started cutting the rebar. After getting through the first cut Felipe, the maestro on the job, let him know there were only 749 more to go! Pam and the Krulish family also got a taste of Peruvian style construction as they were asked to "de-nail" an endless pile of wood pieces that had obviously been used in previous cement pouring projects. After hours of prep work, and insisting on getting a chunk of the roof form built, the expertise of The Gordon family came through. Climbing on walls and boards they nailed and set wood slabs to use as the molds for the cement to be poured to cover the entire top section of the second floor.
While working, we couldn't help but stop for a few minutes, mid-job, and take in the beautiful landscape that is Cajamarca and see the kids playing in the streets around El Bichito. It is always wonderful to remember what we are doing and who we are doing it for. This group also saw that El Bichito didn't have a stove to cook bread for the children. So towards the end of the trip, the group all pitched in and went to the town center to purchase a "top of the line" stove (fully loaded with an oven light!!!). Feliciana, the cook and caretaker of the 63 children who currently come to receive meals at the center, called me. She excitedly relayed that the roof looked great and the second story looks like a building. Because of the hard work of the group in August The Little Bug (El Bichito) is now ready for phase three: finishing the inside which includes installing doors and windows, plaster work for the walls, as well as plumbing and electrical for the rooms. This is the next planned project for the upcoming December trip! A huge thank you is in order to this group, who worked extremely hard to make sure the roof was put on for the kids at the Bichito. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
December/New Years Expedition People from coast to coast have already signed up to enjoy New Years in Peru! Although winter here, it is warm and beautiful in Peru. Projects will be at El Bichito with a Machu Picchu and Cusco visit. Join us now for a New Years you'll never forget! Check out our new Free Expedition fundraising ideas. We can help you help others.
