New Children at Sunflower Home:
Matilda Chavez Sponsor-A-Child
Hooray! Matilda, along with her 5 siblings, finally arrived at the Sunflower Home. We have been caring for the family for some weeks and now have official custody. (February was a holiday for Judges in Peru.) Upon arriving the children said, "This is nice, we want to stay here until our mother gets better."
The olderst sister, Liz who is 15, had been the family's provider as their mother was institutionalized and alcoholic father had abandoned them. News of their mother's death came to us the day after their arrival.
You can read more about all the new children by going to the Sponsor-A-Child section of the website: www.sxhu.org.
Please pass along this newsletter to family, co-workers and friends who you feel would enjoy sponsoring these children.

Sponsoring has never been easier
Southern Cross can now set up monthly deductions from your Mastercard or Visa Credit Cards. Information required is listed on the new Child Sponsorship form on our website (www.sxhu.org). In addition, if you'd like to set up an automatic check written monthly from your own checking account, please contact your own bank, they can help set it up.
Re-Designed Sponsor Program Our Sunflower program has full time legal custody of each of our children, who have lost their family through a combination of death, abandonment, and/or abuse. Your sponsorship provides the land and house your child is living in; tutoring facilities, a large comedor (cafeteria) for group activities and meals, house-parents, a cook, and other staff who care for your child including psychological therapy for abandonment issues; three varied & well-balanced meals every day; clothing; a good education and/or vocational training; medical and dental care; birthday parties; recreational opportunities; transportation and everything else your child needs to live a well-rounded, fulfilling life. The real cost of this level of care costs us a little over $120 per month per child. We have therefore re-designed our program to accommodate both full sponsorships (Patron sponsors) and team sponsorships.
Patron sponsorship may be requested (inclusive sponsorship at $120/month) otherwise sponsors will automatically become part of a Team Sponsor at $60/month.
Please stop by our website to read more about sponsorship, or if you have any questions you can email laura@sxhu.org.

Greetings,
Child sponsorships provide a child's second chance in life. We invite you to learn more about opportunities to sponsor either our children, Drop-In-Centers or funded homes. Thanks for making all the difference in these children's lives.

Back To School!:
Smiles, and a few frowns (notice Eddy on the far left), are typical reactions when heading back to school, and our kids are geared up, and ready to roll.
Approximately $2000 of your sponsorship money went to enroll our current students in school and provide uniforms. We thank you, and all the children thank you. (Except for maybe Eddy....)

Drop- In-Centers and Funded Homes:
Urban Drop-In- Centers,
like Resbalosa, are needed refuges for street children who are not
ready to enter an orphanage/home. About 100 street children are
currently using Resbalosa as a "home base".
These centers are
a first step in transitioning away from the street and into one of our
Homes. Centers provide a hot meal, shower, laundry facilities and
place for counseling and/or training.
Peru,
Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia have all invited Southern Cross Humanitarian to establish centers in
their countries. With your help, SXHU plans on opening more centers within the coming year.
Funded Homes sponsored by SXHU include the Anta Home for girls. Nuns at this home are taking care of children but do not have adequate funds to feed their children and/or renovate their facilities. There are many homes who have asked for our assistance.
Donating funds to
sponsor and sustain Drop-In- Centers or Funded Homes are appreciated and needed.
For Drop-In-Center or Funded Home donations go to www.sxhu.org. |

Heartbeats!
"When people donate their time, they are giving of their valuable heartbeats"
· Alex Brandon & other volunteers with the British non-profit organization Kiya Survivors, located in Urabamba, are our newest angels looking after our autistic children. Oscar, Fernando and his brother Marco Antonio will all be picked up each morning, driven to a classroom for special needs, then be given up to 4 hrs of training each evening. Thank you so very much!
· SXHU wants to thank Carol Lipski, of Wisconsin, for all the support you gave to our older girls. Your financial donation for bras, was greatly needed, timely and appreciated!
· Quinn Brady of Cupertino CA, is our first Southern Cross Humanitarian Chapter President. You can be one too! Responsibilities include spreading the word & working on fundraising activities in your local area. Anyone interested in being a Chapter President, please contact Laura@sxhu.org. You would be eligiable for a cool SXHU shirt, fundraising packet, and lots of blessings.
· It was hard to say good-bye to Colleen, our Summer School teacher, this week. She has done a great service for our children. One simple example is 3 months ago Yosimar could not read, now he can. We are forever grateful.

Goodsearch is an internet search engine powered by Yahoo.
It costs you nothing, but for each search performed they will pay us a penny. It may not seem like much, but 200 searches a day will help us earn enough to support a child at the Sunflower.
Enter "Southern Cross Humanitarian" as your charity of choice.
Email everyone in your address book and ask them to use goodsearch to benefit the orphans in Peru.
