Founder's Message

Welcome to our site. Southern Cross Humanitarian is a personable, grass roots organization dedicated to professional methods of dealing with the world's street children. There are 100 million street children in the world. All we need are 100 million adults to care for just one kid. Our foundation is operated and funded by regular people, just like me. Mostly volunteer, our overhead varies between 5%-9%. Our growth rate quadruples every year thus far. By the end of 2007, we housed or fed (daily) nearly 500 children ages 2 - 19 from northern Colombia to southern Peru. Some are so hungry they hold their breakfast close to their chest so no one will take it out of their hands. Some are nearly naked. Some are brilliant, others brain damaged. Some are orphaned or abandoned. Still others may have a parent working in the streets with them to survive. Some radiate hope, while others, as young as seven, attempt suicide. Some are victims of unspeakable crimes.

Throughout my travels, I visit with children standing on the street corners, sleeping on cardboard, or sitting under bridges and they want to
talk. The fourteen-year-old prostitutes in Cali, the eight-year-old boy who was a slave in Cusco, the intoxicated "glue kids" laying in the parks of Cochabamba, and the five-year-old Tolimense who lost her arm to a landmine while playing in her backyard. They each have a story of sorrow they want someone to know about. They want to be heard that they are alive. These are the children who come into our homes and centers. In those homes, they sit on our laps and we put our arms around them and we love them. And we listen.

We have 500 stories to tell. Join us to add some more.
